The Vice Mayor of Salcedo, recognizing Rotary's contributions to her City in the past 2 years, has made a personal request to Josefina Urena, now the President, Club Rotario Salcedo. The request is for us to equip 3 public libraries in the City of Salcedo with books, furniture & equipment which will enable them to better serve their community. The project will provide updated books, encyclopedias, dictionaries & other needed resources for underprivileged students of all ages. A new generator will enable one school library to operate at night for adult students working on completing their high school diplomas. The project is estimated to take 6 months to complete.
Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the District 5110 WCS Committee meeting, we presented the project application, it was approved & 4 more D5110 Clubs pledged a total of $1,723 bringing us up to a total of $3,873 in total Clubs contributions. Two other Clubs had already pledged $900. Our 2 Clubs, Salcedo, Host Club, & Scott Valley, Sponsor Club, had already pledged $1,350. It's been an exciting weekend!
The Rotary Foundation Matching Grant (MG) application has already been faxed & e-mailed to RI. The original will be mailed tomorrow. Join us in thinking positively that our MG will be approved.
For those of you Rotarians from the 6 other Clubs, your commitments have been a great encouragement & inspiration. We will work diligently to honor your trust. This project will be the fourth Salcedo project in 3 years, the first 3 being 2 computer projects & 1 physiotherapy equipment project.
Thank you all for all you do,
Norm Malmberg, WCS Chair & Primary Contact
